Push Notifications - What You Need To Know
Imagine Your Push Notifications as Mail Delivered to Your Home
- Your Subscription is Your Address:
When you enable push notifications, you're essentially giving us your “mailing address” (a unique subscription on your device). That’s how our server knows where to send you notifications. - The Delivery System (Push Service):
Behind the scenes, your device's operating system (or browser) acts like a postal service. Even if you’re not actively using the app, this service keeps an eye out for new "mail" (notifications) for you. - Staying Up to Date:
Sometimes, if the system hasn't seen any new notifications for a while or if your "mailing address" (subscription) changes because of updates or if you log out and back in, the delivery service might drop your subscription.- When that happens, you might temporarily not receive notifications until you open the app again, which helps refresh your "mailing address" so that future notifications come through.
- Behind the Scenes Work:
Although it might seem like the notifications should always work, they actually depend on a few factors:- That your device’s settings allow notifications.
- That your device’s "mail service" (the push notification service) knows your current address.
- That our server keeps track of your updated address.
Occasionally, if any part of this chain isn't updated—like if the subscription (your address) becomes outdated—you might not see new notifications until the system updates itself.
